I'm blessed to have a home in Westgate with my beautiful wife Emily and our two cats, Skipper and Paul Newman.I haven't spent the the majority of my life working on behalf of politicians. Instead, I've been working, solving problems, and dealing with systems and structures that don’t work the way they should. Like a lot of Ohioans, I feel like the decisions made at the Statehouse are completely separate from the realities we face every day.I’m running because too many people feel unheard.Costs keep going up, paychecks don’t go far enough, rights keep getting stripped, and it feels like there aren't enough people actually trying to make the changes the average Ohioan needs.I believe government should be bold, honest and focused on results. It should focus on working families, small businesses, and people who just want a fair shot at a decent life. That means engaging with the community, following through and calling out the bullshit happening.I’m not running to climb a political ladder. I’m running because I care about this state and I want to be a voice for people who feel like they’ve been ignored for too long.Ohio needs leaders who show up, tell the truth, and fight for what's right. And I want to be that fighter for you.

It’s easy to forget that Ohio is a beautiful state—foothills of the Appalachians, rolling agricultural fields, and vast lakes.That’s why it’s so shocking to see people and businesses willing to run it into the ground.We have seen protections removed from our only state forest to allow fracking. Toxic algae infects our water when we aren’t in a drought. Clean energy is actively opposed in favor of monied interests.Real action is needed—and it’s needed now. That means EV credits, grants for renewable energy, and ensuring that corporations (fracking companies, data centers, and others) are not the only voices at the table.

Ohio Democrats have to admit something: there appears to be no coherent party strategy. We have wandered further and further into the wilderness, relying primarily on anti-conservative sentiment to drive voter turnout. It has become rare to feel genuine excitement for candidates at the state and local levels.I believe the root cause is a desire among longtime party insiders to control the definition of what it means to be a “Democrat.” By clinging to a narrow definition, the party has become stifled by corporatists and centrists who would rather hold onto existing power than invest in building a strong bench of candidates. We are not the big tent we need to be to energize voters and reclaim power.I promise to use my position, time, and resources to engage voters and help independent, grassroots, and outside candidates get a real chance. Ohio deserves a robust party that truly represents its people. We tell the party who the candidates are—not the other way around.

Coalition Building

When I was a kid, one of the highlights of my week was going to our local library. They had an old Amiga computer you could play with and a small corner where kids could sit and read, overlooking a little area the staff decorated for the seasons. It felt magical to me.As I got older, the library became a resource for accessing the internet and printing copies of my résumé as I entered the workforce. I’ve had work meetings hosted at the library and spent more than a few afternoons attending author talks or participating in community events there.The point is that libraries have been a significant part of my life—and they are a vital part of most communities. They provide a place for unhoused people to find relief from the heat and cold. They offer resources to job seekers to support their search. In fact, for every dollar spent on libraries, Ohio sees more than five dollars in economic return.So it makes you wonder why there is such an aggressive attack on them from Republicans. Between budget cuts and flooding the system with blatant book-ban efforts, our libraries are under siege.As your lawmaker, I vow to always protect libraries and expand the vital role they play in our state.

Protect Libraries

I’ll be straight to the point: I am unabashedly pro-choice. While Ohio has codified abortion rights, we should never let our guard down on this issue. I will not allow any backsliding.Beyond that, the United States has seen a dramatic increase in maternal mortality rates—one of the only high-income countries to experience such a rise. We must ensure that Ohio is investing in the resources healthcare providers need and that all Ohioans have real access to those providers.

Reproductive Rights

Ohio is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. If you look at the district maps, they resemble a jigsaw puzzle made of snakes. Republicans will continue to make every attempt to redraw districts in their favor, and after the failure of Issue 1—due in large part to deliberate obfuscation—we have limited options left to challenge it directly. The only real way out of this tailspin is to engage voters and get them to the polls.But the far right doesn’t want everyone voting. They will attempt to impose arbitrary ID requirements, further attack mail-in voting, and slash budgets to make early voting even harder.Voting is a fundamental right, and I will defend it with all my energy. I want to expand early voting locations, create shuttle services to polling places, and undo the damage we’ve seen to our electoral system.I also want to advocate for ranked-choice voting. By creating more options for both candidates and voters, we can increase engagement and strengthen our democracy.

Voting Rights

ICE agents are outside our schools, white supremacists are marching in our neighborhoods, and far-right actors are actively working to dismantle the foundations of our democracy through direct attacks on citizen lead ballot initiatives.These actions grow and spread in silence. I refuse to sit by and watch our state slip into subnational authoritarianism. As goes Ohio, so goes the nation.Fighting this requires more than just vaguely alluding to the issues or the occasional strongly worded press release. As your senator, I will use the bully pulpit to call out the actions of fascist legislators, introduce laws that protect Ohioans, and ensure that constituents’ concerns are heard.

Anti Authoritarianism

Union jobs were the backbone of our nation. They provided good pay, strong benefits, a pathway to retirement, and a deep sense of pride in the work being done.And I want to bring that back. Unions built strong communities all across Ohio. Yet corporations are quick to profit from union workers in factories and warehouses, only to later attack them through lobbying and intimidation. Once they’ve extracted everything they can, they shut down those facilities and leave entire communities destitute.We can end that.But beyond union workers, all Ohio workers deserve support.There are proposals to raise Ohio’s minimum wage, but under current plans it won’t reach $15 until 2030. At today’s rate of inflation, many experts argue workers should be earning closer to $20 now. That is what we should be fighting for—alongside stronger pathways that help job seekers connect with stable, long-term careers.Ohio workers should feel like someone has their back, and I want to be that person.

Protect Workers

A core piece of the American Dream has always been owning a home. But with corporate investors, so-called “investment” properties, and a lack of new construction, it has become increasingly difficult to even find homes to buy. Add in out-of-control rent increases, and that dream is slipping further and further away.But more can be done.I would start by banning large corporations from sweeping up single-family homes. I would fight for “right of first refusal” laws, allowing renters of single-family homes the first opportunity to purchase their homes if a landlord decides to sell.I want to cap the rate at which landlords can increase rents, strengthen renters’ union laws, and create a clear, accessible pathway for tenants to organize.Finally, I want to incentivize home builders to construct homes that meet the actual needs of the average Ohioan, rather than focusing solely on so-called “luxury” housing.We can create a housing market that works for the people of this state.

Housing

We have all heard stories of parents who have had to put their careers on hold due to the high cost of childcare.The average household with two children spends nearly 30% of its income on childcare, and these costs have risen by roughly 7% year over year.Ohio ranks dead last nationally in eligibility for childcare subsidies based on household income.Other states have found ways to significantly subsidize these costs—costs that are placing immense strain on working families across our state.If we can find ways to fund stadiums and outdated coal plants, surely we can find a way to fund childcare.I propose creating a trust that can be funded through excess revenues and state loans. This trust could be used to help cover the cost of childcare on a near-universal basis.By lifting this burden off working families, we will enable more parents to participate in the workforce and allow more money to circulate in other areas of the economy

One of the first signs of a fascist takeover is the targeting of marginalized and vulnerable groups. As we have seen over the past few years, the right has been quick to villainize the LGBTQ+ community. Protecting these communities is often criticized as a reason Democrats lose elections. I refuse to stand by and be silent just to give others a false sense of electability at the expense of others’ well-being.As your lawmaker, I would advocate against bans on trans athletes. Politicians are failing Ohioans and using trans athletes as a scapegoat to deflect blame for the harm they themselves have caused. This will not stand with me.I would also propose amending the Ohio constitution to codify same-sex marriage into Ohio law, ensuring that all Ohioans receive equal treatment under the law. This would reduce reliance on the Supreme Court and create stronger, more durable protections for LGBTQ+ communities.Finally, I would work to ensure that LGBTQ+ people are explicitly included in all anti-discrimination laws, guaranteeing protections against employment and housing discrimination
